Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (Online)

The two year post graduate diploma in Business Management is a master level program equipping the participants with an integrated approach to management function and related skills. The programme also provides an opportunity to concentrate in one or two of the functional areas (viz. Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Marketing, Production, Operations & Decision Sciences and Strategic Management). To fulfil the requirement of area(s) of concentration, a participant is required to successfully complete five electives (with highest scheduled teaching hours) offered from the concerned area. Participants also have the freedom to choose any of the offered electives that suit individual requirements without an area of concentration.

The PGDBM program is delivered online with three one week campus immersion modules during term I at start, term III and term VI.

For working professionals, the PGDBM program is best suited as they learn while they earn. Fresh graduates, who are expected to join an organization while doing the program will get more opportunities to learn from the experienced XLRI faculty, chosen academicians across the country as well as industry experts and can also interact with very diverse group of participants over an interactive online platform which monitor their learning as well as performance progression during the course. Program also offer significant industry interface in the form of senior corporate leadership interactions and career support initiatives.

Learning Method

The course pedagogy involves lectures, case analysis and discussions, hands on exercises, simulations, personal reflections, role plays, tutorials, and peer-to-peer learning through group work.

Online sessions are held on both weekends and on Thursdays from 6.30 PM - 9.45 PM. In addition to these contact hours mostly led by the faculty members of XLRI, the program offers you opportunities for systematic peer learning through flexible interactive sessions scheduled on Sunday morning (11.30 am - 01.00 pm), Tuesday and Friday evenings (8.30 -10.00 PM). You will be working in groups in a monitored platform provided by the institute and groups are allowed to shift the timings of these interactions to any slot convenient to members increasing flexibility of the program. In addition, participants are also offered tutorial assistance on Monday (from 7.00 - 10.00 PM) that can be availed by members on need basis.

Career Guidance Support

The two year post graduate diploma in Business Management (Online) is a master level program equipping the participants with an integrated approach to management function and related skills. Enrolled students will have opportunities of career guidance through specifically designed sessions and other career support activities, including connecting with XLRI's global alumni network. Besides, the regular speaker sessions involving senior corporate executives will give students opportunities for interactions.

PGDBM Course Plan

The course plan involves 714 hours of Scheduled Teaching Hours spread across core and elective courses. Total designed program content for the PGDBM program is for 1240 hours consisting of Scheduled Teaching Hours, Flexible Interactive Sessions, Industry Interface and Career Development Initiatives and Tutorial delivered on need basis. According to AICTE norms, selected students are expected to invest additional 1160 hours as Indicative Self Learning Hours in the form of pre-readings, assignments & individual reflections, individual exercises, e-texts, self-assessment etc. across all courses depending on personal strengths and weaknesses.

Year 1 Courses (Approximately 41.5 Credits)

Year 2 Courses (Approximately 38.5 Credits)

There are four core courses in Term IV: Business Research Methods, Corporate Ethics, Corporate Sustainability and Operations Research. Elective courses are scheduled during second year from the second half of term four to sixth term. However, floating of any given elective course is dependent on the market requirement, minimum number of registrations and other related administrative factors. Emphasis during the electives is laid on application of knowledge and case discussions. During the elective courses students may also require undertaking research studies in their field of interest.

Faculty

The program is taught by experienced fulltime faculty of XLRI - Xavier School of Management, chosen academicians across the country as well as industry experts.

PGDBM Program Fee

The fee for the Program is Rs. 14 lakhs, paid over 4 instalments as follows

The fees include the cost of textbooks, reading materials, library resources, accommodation and boarding during the three mandatory campus immersion programs at Jamshedpur but exclude the travel and related costs.

Scholarships

To ensure diversity of the participants, the following scholarships amount shall be adjusted from the total fees. A candidate can avail both scholarships for woman candidate and ST/SC candidate.

The top performers of the batch are also eligible for academic scholarship of Rs. 50,000/- at the end of first year.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum aggregate mark of 50% from a recognized University/Institution recognized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
  • Those completing their final examination and obtaining certificates for final completion by July 31, 2023, may also apply. Students without experience should have a confirmed offer from an organization because they are expected to work during their study.
  • Candidates with relevant work experience shall be given preference.

Award of Diploma

Participants shall be awarded the “Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (Online)” upon successfully meeting the academic requirements of the program as set by the Academic Council of XLRI Jamshedpur.
